Description

Our Premium Disease Free, Pest Free, Live Crickets. You choose the size!

  • Many cricket farmers have tried but few have succeeded in producing a cricket that is as healthy and hearty as ours.  We cut no corners when it comes to raising our crickets. If you ordered from other sources in the past, you will appreciate the pristine quality cricket and professional package that gets delivered to you.
  • Buy in bulk for an even better value.

How long can I keep my crickets alive?

  • The life span of a cricket is 8 to 10 weeks.  Your goal should be to order enough crickets to last you for around 1 month.
  • Try ordering more smaller crickets and let them grow into larger ones.  You'll find that your trip to Pet Smart to buy 12 cent each crickets will be over!
  • All of the products that you need to feed your cricket for that month can be found in our Kricket Complete Kit.  Getting creative with apples and oranges only leads to a smelly cricket container.

Cricket Care Sheet

Cricket Care Sheet

Now that you bought your crickets from Premium Crickets, how do you keep them alive?  You should plan to keep your crickets for around 1 month to get the maximum benefit from your purchase.  Here are a few tips, questions, and answers that will make feeding your reptile with Premium Crickets a breeze.

Where should I keep my crickets?

Crickets have some characteristics of people – their like their own space.  That means you can’t keep them in the shipping box that we provide as their permanent house.

I recommend to people to go to Wal-Mart, Target, or Home Depot and purchase a plastic storage tote (see pictured):

You can poke holes in the top for ventilation.  The top really is not necessary until the crickets start growing wings – which is just after they reach ¾”.  If you get a container that is at least 2 feet high then no top is necessary.  Deeper the better

Choose a clear plastic container – clearer the better.  We found the clear containers are slipperier and the crickets cannot climb out.

Open your box of crickets INSIDE the plastic tote.  If you do not then you will surly have a house full of crickets.  You have no idea how many first time buyers of bulk crickets make that mistake.

Pull out the egg crates that are inside the cricket-shipping box and place the crickets and the egg crates together in the plastic tote.

Throw a hand full of cricket feed on the bottom of the plastic tote and a small plate full of cricket water – and you are in business.

How do I remove the crickets from the storage container to feed to my reptile?

A good trick that I found is to place a toilet paper roll in the container.  Crickets like extra space and a good hiding place so they will happily go inside the roll.  Just pick the roll up and transport your crickets to your reptile cage.  This is a good trick for those of you who don’t like to touch crickets.  The pros don’t really care – they just scoop up a hand full and toss them in the reptile cage.

How long do crickets live?

It takes 42 days to produce a full grown cricket.  Once they are full grown, they generally have two to three weeks before they pass on.

When do crickets begin to chirp?

Some people get annoyed with the sound of chirping crickets.  The chirping begins when they grow beyond ¾” in size and start developing wings.  So if you do not want to hear the chirping, order smaller crickets.

Why do my crickets smell bad?

The crickets do not smell bad - it is the bacteria that cause the odor.  What causes bacteria to flourish?  Rotting food and dead crickets.

What rots? – All the food that you throw in the cricket cage – like potatoes, carrots, etc.

What should I feed my crickets?

Try our cricket food.  It does not rot and has all the vitamins and most minerals needed to produce a fully ‘gut loaded’ cricket.  We have our cricket food specially blended and grounded to achieve an ideal growth rate and gut load for our crickets.

Other food sources work, but not as well.  If you do not want our food, go with oatmeal, corn meal, and/or dog food.  You can use a potato, however it's full of starch and not a good food supplement.

You also need to provide a water source for your crickets.  The cheap way is a wet sponge or paper towel.  However, keeping the sponge clean can be a challenge over time.  Paper towels dry out quickly.

What is the ‘Cricket Water’ that you sell?

We sell our cricket water in a dehydrated form.  When you get your bag of cricket water, add the contents to 1 gallon of water.  Stir for about 15 minutes and you will see it turn into a ‘jello’ form.  It is the same stuff you buy at the Pet Store – just no fancy label. Scoop a small amount on a small plate (or jar cap) and change out every 3 days.  It makes watering your crickets a snap.

Do I need to refrigerate the cricket water?

No, you do not.  I carry around the same cricket water to reptile shows for people to see for over two years.  The cricket water should be stored in a cool location.  If it goes dry, simply add some more water to rehydrate.

Why do I need to ‘dust’ my crickets with Calcium? (Rather than feeding them with Calcium)

Many people make the mistake of trying to ‘gut load’ their cricket with calcium-supplemented products (like cricket water, etc.).  Here is the problem – a cricket has an exoskeleton.  That means their skeleton is on the outside of their body.  Too much calcium makes their skeleton brittle and they cannot molt it off as they grow to their next stage of development.  Premature death is the result.

We sell a high-grade calcium product that you can use to coat your crickets prior to feeding to your reptile.  We recommend that you dust your crickets with calcium every other feeding.

What else do I need to consider?

  • Crickets should be kept at 70 degrees or better (find somewhere inside your house)
  • Crickets and fly strips do not do well together – the fly strip wins.
  • Crickets are very sensitive to chemicals.  They are hearty, but weak to chemicals like paint, new carpet out-gassing, and of course – bug spray.
  • Clean your cricket cage out every week.
  • Have fun!

What is Weather Protection

A 40 hour heat pack is used as weather protection when temperatures are between 30 degrees and 50 degrees. Some insects like the heat and cannot handle the cold very well. A 40 hour heat pack is all the warmth they need during shipping.

There is a $3.00 charge for this service. Please see our shipping policy to ensure your shipment has the live arrival guarantee.

Got my crickets in the mail today and you are not kidding when you say your crickets are healthy! There were only 3 or 4 dead ones out of 1000!!! They are very active and leave no doubt as to how healthy they are. The ones I have been buying up until now pale in comparison and generally are half dead (literally) when I get them. I will definitely be back! :)

Mike,

I know a lot of people don't take the time to communicate something unless it is negative. I am guilty of this myself. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for providing high quality crickets and doing so at a great price with prompt delivery.

Your extremely pleased customer,

: I just wanted to drop you guys an email regarding my experience with y'all. I am a first time owner of a bearded dragon that I rescued. She is extremely malnourished and is going to require a ton of attention. I can honestly say that because of you guys, I think she will make a full recovery in no time! Your customer service was impeccable! I believe I spoke with Allison after I made my first initial order ( which had some rookie mistakes). I only ordered 500 crickets and a few butterworms. She informed me immediately that the computer systems were a little behind, but to call back and she would handle it over the phone. As soon as I called back she was practically waiting for me. After a few minutes I nearly doubled my order to include a complete Cricket keeper tub/material, mealworms, and Phoenix worms. She made the corrections to my first order, and I just received all of it today not even a full 24 hours after purchase. As far ask the crickets go! They all look amazingly healthy! Only about 10 were D.O.A., but than again that is only 10 out of 500! That is right at or less than 2% .. Overall, I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchases! I will never order from another supplier! Thank you again for making this experience painless! Adam

I recieved my crickets on time and healthy, with the oder pack and cricket food, I put them all in a 10 gallon tank with a fine screen lid. my cricket tank had 3 water pillows and a low watt heat pad underneath. The crickets had their egg crates for hiding and yet after two weeks it seems about half the crickets are dead? i don't understnad what happened, they were all very hyper when I got them, I feed only about 20 crickets at a time, once a day to my two juvenile bearded dragons. Shouldn't my crickets have lasted at least month? I know they molt and grow, but many of the bodies were still full looking, not hollow husks? i don't know how many crickets to order now, i lik eordering a thousand at a time, but what good is that if half will keep dying on me? on the plus side, my lazy dragon is much more perky after eating these crickets.

I had ordered crickets from another company previously. Compared to the company in which I had ordered them from the shipping presented here was much better. We shall see how they live compared to the other ones but so far I am more satisfied with the way this company has presented and shipped it's product.

I got my crickets in the mail on Friday. Fedex left it by the door which I was grateful for because I'm a college student and I'm not always home. It was a nice day outside, luckily. I'm glad I got the crickets before the weekend because it's now Sunday and freezing and snowing. My baby beardie has his food and he loves them! I will definitely order from here again. I love how there was a winter packaging option. A majority of the 500 crickets survived and I was surprised! Good job and thanks! I'm a satisfied first customer! Tiffany, Norman, Oklahoma

Been ordering from this website since I got my Geckos. My first order I had 150 or so dead but there was more than a thousand in there. They all died in 3 weeks. I though maybe I did something wrong or they just don't live that long from 1/2" size. So Next order I placed for bulk food supply combo and 1000 crickets. 300-400 Crickets was dead and 200 was alive but couldn't move just lay on there backs and kick a little and died in the first week, But the rest of them lived a month or more and got big and healthy looking, laid eggs that hatched and everything! 3rd order I placed not good. All dead. I was told cold killed them but they were still warm from winter packing. My temp gun said they was 62 degrees but the boxes was heavily taped and no screens. I think they suffocated. Potatoes was barely eaten on and black. There wasn't any poo either which is weird cause crickets make a lot in those little boxes fast from past 2 orders. I was told in a one sentence email I didn't get overnight shipping sorry for any inconvenience. So I'll never buy from here again.
Premium Crickets - the problem with this order is the customer did not choose overnight shipping when his temperatures were below 20 at night. We allow the customer to choose the cheaper shipping in cold weather, but they wave the guarantee. Mike

I've previously had good luck with PremiumCrickets product, so that's why my star rating is a three. This time, though, my order arrived with about 1/3 dead or dormant. I warmed overnight, and still had probably 150 non-responsive crickets. I continued to have large numbers die daily. By the end of 7 days, all 500 (minus the 50 or so I used) were dead. This is not typical of previous orders...I can only guess that the paralytic virus has hit the Premium farm where my crickets were produced. Until that is resolved I will have to find another source of crickets.

Good morning, I wanted to write & inform you that our bearded dragon passed away about a year ago. He died due to a tumor in his stomach. Most importantly though, I wanted you to know that for five years you had always provided us with excellent customer service and healthy LIVE crickets. You even talked to us personally on the phone at one time. When the chance arrives, I always recommend your website. Thank you so much for your great service! Anissa Wallin, Cloquet MN

I ordered my count of 500 crickets on Sunday and they arrived on Wednesday with only about 15 dead ones in the box (quite considerably fine considering the temperatures). I loved the fact that I could track them and it came UPS, not usps. The shipping was inexpensive compared to the 30.00 I've spent at other places, the crickets were inexpensive and the size of the crickets were correct. My bearded dragon Loki absolutely went nuts over them. So grateful I found this company, they have just found a loyal customer.

I ordered 500 1/8 crickets and I thought they would be in a box. But they were in a cylinder type bottle and the holes were taped up and many of my crickets died. About half of them died. I don't know what happened.

If this is your first time on this site, then stop and look no further. I got a lizard a few months ago and started buying crickets online, and the first 2 places I ordered from were horrible, and then I found Premium crickets and they are the best. All my crickets are healthy and alive and there the next day. I wouldn't shop anywhere else. Keep up the great work guys!

Mike, I'm so pleased with the crickets and other things I've gotten here. Out of the 500, I'd say I got less than 20 dead ones (and it is HOT where I live, so I expected a higher death rate). They look healthy and active, and don't die off after a few days like the crickets I was getting from Fluker's. The only thing more amazing than the crickets is the cricket food I got from you. The crick tank used to have a sweet, nasty stink. Now with your cricket food, it smells of sawdust, which isn't bad at all. Thanks for the great cricket supply! I'll be coming back here every time. - Sarah Mississippi

Hello, I just wanted to send an e-mail and let you guys know that you are great! I just recently got a chinese water dragon and so I am going through the crickets..lol I ordered from 2 other places before I found you, and they were not good. The other crickets I ordered were half dead, they stunk, and were in a container way too small. When I got your order they were almost all alive, they were healthy, they have lasted for a month now, and they didn't smell. I didn't sit and count all the ones you sent, but I think I got a lot more than the 500 that I ordered and that was nice. I also ordered meal worms from you for my daughter's salamander and they were the healthiest worms too, and they are still in the fridge doing great, and you have great prices. I just wanted to say thank you and keep up the great work. Sincerely, Kellie Howe ________________________________________

I got my last order from premium with a lot of DOA's. I had at least 200 of 500 dead. I have ordered from premium several times now, and I have never had any real issues, but this time sucked. I didn't ask them to replace my order (I'm not sure why not), but I always get more DOAs than everyone else. I do love that I can get worms and crickets from the same supplier, but I am keeping my eye out for something better now. I hate to feel this way, but I do now. Sorry..

Thank you for the crickets!

They not only came 99% alive, but they were well feed.

I am a "newbee" bearded dragon mom who decided to have a few class pets. So, I would buy crickets and supplies from mom and pop pet stores or the pet supply chains. The employees would say that the crickets were "gut loaded." But, when I offered them to the beardies, the crickets would rush to eat the beardies' food bowl of veggies. The crickets were starving! I would've made sure the crickets were well feed before offering them to the bearded dragons.

Also, I would get crickets of varying sizes when I only wanted to smallest size available. I would then have to pick through the already bought crickets to ensure my babies got the right size. I am very happy with my order and to see the crickets are of a unifrom size.

My class was excited to see the shipment arrive. They watched as I set the crickets up and as the beardies snapped them up one by one. Oh, thanks for the videos. It really made a difference. The crickets from the other places were dying prematurely.

It shows how much you care about your business and the products you sell. Sincerely, Mrs. Jefferson Tampa, Florida P.S. Just by sitting the crickets next to the bearded dragons' tank they knew lunch was being served!

I have bought crickets elsewhere and have been offered very poor service when I found Mike and had a problem he took care of it right of the bat...Note the only problem I had and it was only once was somehow there was a delay when shipped and the crickets did not all make it...It took only 1 email to Mike, and they sent more to me...Best service ever would not think of buying anywhere else. Thank you so much for such prompt shipping and timely service. When I received my order of 500 crickets, all but a few were alive and doing well. Due to the inclement weather, I was unsure how the crickets would do being shipped over the course of two days. I have had issues in the past with other websites and trying to order crickets during the winter, but not only were my crickets alive and well, they were also fast and cost- effective. You're the best. Thanks!

I just wanted to give credit where credit is due.
The Crickets that you shipped out to me are the healthiest that I have ever recieved from anywhere,it was so cold here during the few day's of delivery and they even spent a little time on my porch because I had fell asleep waiting for them to arrive ( I work night shift )
I really did'nt have any dead loss. Keep Up the excellent service!!!
( Note: the heat pack was still warm & that was around 3:00 pm on wednesday )

I just received my order of crickets that replaces the ones that died during transport to Maine. Unfortunately, we went from a warmer winter to zero temps almost overnight. I appreciate the fact that you honored your guarantee and now that it's a little warmer up here in Maine, sent the replacement crickets. Crickets in this part of the country cost around $12.00 per hundred so online ordering is the way to go for us. Thanks again, Cindy Moore, Waterboro, Me

Mike, I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with the quality of your crickets. They are all so healthy and lively and even though I live all the way in CT they arrived without even one dead. I am a new beardie owner and have been trying a few different companies. I was very disappointed with all of them from huge boxes, to tons of dead crickets, high die off rate, and all kinds of unidentified bugs. I will be ordering exclusivly from you now and keep up the good work! I am going to tell everyone I know about premium crickets! *~*Kristen*~*

Mike, I could not believe how healthy your crickets were, not to mention it took less than a day for them to get to my door step! I am so happy to have found you, now I know my dragons will have what they need when they need it. Thanks sooo much! Lacy

Hello.. We've been ordering from Prem. Crickets for over 7 months now. Even during the winter we didn't have any problems getting live crickets. I've also noticed less of an smell from the cricket boxes that are delievered from Prem. Crickets. THANK YOU!!!!

Mike, I am a first time customer but I will certainly be ordering from you again. I am in awe of the excellent health of the crickets I received. There really was only a very few dead ones. And as the other customers have said, no pests, only crickets. The packaging was a nice surprise too. I couldn't believe they were actually inside a container, not just loose in the shipping box like the other suppliers! This made it very easy to transfer them to the holding tank. Shipping was also FAST. Thanks, Barb

Hello!

I must give you guys there a major compliment.

I have been ordering crickets for a few months now and I have never been disappointed. The crickets are ALWAYS healthy and full of life. I ordered meal worms for the first time with this order and quite frankly, I am very very surprised on how healthy and large they are! They were shipped to me in a carton with egg crates opposed to being shipped in a deli cup. Made a huge difference in how lively they are. I put a few in with the gecko's and man, they went right for them!!

I am very happy with this companys products and plan to order from again and again, for the health and livelyhood of my lizard family!!

Thank you for producing such great products!!

A fateful customer,

Mary

Mike:

I want to thank you for the exceptional quality of your crickets and the wonderful customer service I have received from you.

I have shopped around and dealt with well over a dozen different vendors over the past four years, and none even come close to you. I can't tell you how many problems I've had in the past (some were real nightmares) - and every other vendor I have ever dealt with always managed to include a few nice beetles and larva as extras

Not having to deal with pests like that (that I'm still trying to get the beetles out of my house and to see the quality - size, health, and vitality of the crickets I've received from you, is such a relief.

I will happily recommend you to anyone and everyone I can.

I received my order yesterday and I was super excited to see that very few were dead out of 500. There was maybe 4 or 5 dead which is really wonderful cause all the other crickets I have purchased from before had a very short life span once I got them home!!!! I will be purchasing again. -Cristal

Ordered 500 1/2 inch; about half are dead; they're not guaranteed because I chose two day shipping instead of one. So.... $35 for 250. Thankfully, I'm switching to roaches soon. My past orders have come in just fine.

Ordering crickets during the colder months definitely wasn't worth the savings. Majority of them arrived dead or on the verge of dying. Also, ordering anything smaller than 3/4" will result in more 3/8" and 1/4" -- Gina

------------------------------
It is important during the winter time to order the heat packs and (if necessary) the double box. Otherwise, the crickets don't make it. When the temperatures start to get into the 40 degrees, the crickets start dying.
